Miniature Horses and Buggy

I got the sweetest surprise today. As I was walking out to my mailbox a woman driving a buggy with 2 miniature horses was clip clopping by. I watched her go up my road, a little bit worried about cars coming around a corner, (I live in the country and unfortunately cars fly up my road). She turned the buggy around and came back as I watched. When she got closer I realized that I knew her, but I haven't seen her in about 10-15 years. We got to talking as my Sheltie, "Kenna" made friends with her 2 horses named "Thunder" and "Lightning".

She had been to a local church breakfast for little girls, ( a Princess Breakfast), where they got to ride around as little princesses in her buggy. When she was finished there she decided to come down my road to see if maybe she saw me. She told me she has 7 minature horses, 5 babies and 2 Morgans, and invited me out to see them, (she remembered how much I love horses, in fact she used to care for my 2 horses when I would travel). I would definitely love to go see her and her horses sometime.
"Thunder" and "Lightning" are sooo cute. Lightning is the horse closest in the pic and Thunder is the other one. They have blue eyes. Actually Thunder has 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye.

Anyway, she took Kenna and me for a little ride.

It was great! It really made my day so I have posted some photos here.

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise; Native American and Southwestern Jewelry

What is Sleeping Beauty Turquoise?

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise

SLEEPING BEAUTY is some of the most beautiful turquoise in the world. The Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Mine is located near Globe, Arizona. The name "Sleeping Beauty Turquoise" comes from the same named Mountain it is mined from; the mountain looks like a "woman sleeping".

This mine was a copper mine and the turquoise extracted from it is a saturated light to medium sky blue "Skystone" Turquoise. This turquoise is being extracted less and less which will ultimately make it more sought after.

The Host-Rock for Sleeping Beauty Turquoise is Granite and it is sometimes referred to as "Persian Turquoise" referring to "Iranian Turquoise" which has little to no matrix or veining, (very little Vanadium and no Iron is present in the stone).

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise is the perfect stone to enhance sterling silver. Being so in touch with nature, it is very understandable that Native American Indians would be so attracted to this beautiful stone for their jewelry. Nothing resembles the sky more than the color of Sleeping Beauty Turquoise!

Lots of Turquoise and Other Stone Jewelry can be Seen in my Etsy Shop at:

Rail Buggy Ride

I absolutely love this photo! How happy they both are just to be together. Kenna (our Sheltie) loves my husband so much, she wants to be at his side no matter what he is doing.

She is not a fan of riding in the car, so I never thought she would ride in his rail buggy. First of all because it is sooo loud and second she just wouldn't like it. I did not like the idea of him taking her in it, but he promised to go slow on a very short little ride on the trails in the woods.

She liked it! When he came to a stop at the house she did not even try to get out...she just looked at him like, "What do ya wanna do now"?

I still don't like the idea, but he is very careful and loves her like I do...just thought it was a cute photo.

"Ms Kenna"

Speaking of dogs, I recently finished 2 great books: "Merle's Door" by Ted Kerasote and "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. I thoroughly enjoyed both books. They both were full of a range of emotions, which I like.

I do not recommend books if I do not know you personally, because I think everyone's taste in reading material is so individual and personal; but I will comment that I loved these 2 books.

I would not hesitate to say that if you love dogs you will probably also love them.

"The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. "...a heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope—a captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life . . . as only a dog could tell it".

"Merle's Door" by Ted Kerasote. " ....explores the issues that all animals and their human companions face as their lives intertwine, bringing to bear the latest research into animal consciousness and behavior as well as insights into the origins and evolution of the human-dog partnership".

~Old-Man-in-the-Mountain~ NH Landmark

Mt. Washington-White Mountains, NH

I love New Hampshire! I especially love the White Mountains...in fact so much that a couple of times a month I google real estate in Jackson, NH and North Conway, just for fun. I would love to live in the mountains someday! I used to want to live on the ocean, actually oceanfront...my husband said "that was not gonna happen", -money wise. So realizing I would never be oceanfront, somehow I fell in love with mountains...big mountains. I think it is the awesome-ness, (is that a word?) and the beauty of the mountains. Actually I realize now that it was this same awesome beauty of the ocean that drew me to it.
Anyway, I was just googling NH real estate again and I came across info on "The Old Man of the Mountain", Franconia Notch State Park, NH.

White Mountain Area, NH

"Old Man in the Mountain", NH

Most people from New England reading this post will know all about "The Old Man in the Mountain", but for those that don't here is the story:

The "Old Man" is a natural "profile" in rock on the western rock wall of the mountain notch naturally formed by ledges of granite. The Old Man's face was about 40 feet tall; it was on a cliff 1,000 feet above the valley floor. There is a viewing area off the highway where you could see,( across "Mirror Lake"), the perfect profile of the "Old Man". Millions of visitors would stop here and for decades the Old Man was an official symbol of New Hampshire. The state spent money preserving the face from crumbling due to wind, rain, and ice.

Unfortunately, on May 3, 2003 the Old Man Rock-face tumbled down the cliff. Bitter winters and harsh weather caused water to penetrate the crevices. The water would constantly freeze and expand loosening the rock crevices, despite the constant care from NH state work crews.

Before 2003

Now there are plaques at the viewing area telling of "The Old Man in the Mountain's History".

The Old Man was created over 10,000 years ago by the last geologic ice age.

The Old Man was appreciated by Native American Indians for centuries. Then surveyors described the rock formation in 1805. Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote of "The Old Man" in 'The Great Stone Face'. NH has used this symbol on road markers, brochures, tourist info and even official documents. It became the NH state seal, it appeared on the New Hampshire quarter, and countless commemoratives over the years.

"The Old Man" is very much missed but he will not be forgotten!
